  • How long does it take to complete a portrait?
Depending on the subject, background, and size, it may take from eight hours to 25 hours. I don’t work straight through, so, I like to have time in between to approach the painting fresh. I like to have a three to four weeks to work. The last few days I can let the painting sit, and make adjustments.
  • Why do you love to paint portraits?
I see the world through an artist’s eyes. A mathematician sees the world through numbers, an engineer through physics, a health provider through healing. We all have a distinct point of view, that, when collectively together, we share our gifts of interpretation. When you invest in one of my portraits of a person or pet you know and love, you are elevating that person or pet. You are saying so much more than, “Here’s a gift.” The portrait reminds you of the person or treasured fur baby, and, if intuitively painted by me, it brings joy to you and future generations. I capture the dimple in your grandmother’s face—the one you saw when she put out her fresh baked pies. Or it might be the glint in the eye of your husband, as he would say, “I love you!” My portraits capture personalities and moments in time. The art on your wall starts storytelling when people view it. As the Broadway hit “Hamilton” suggests -- it’s a great way to tell your loved one’s story!
  • What media do you work in?
Soft pastels and watercolor--sometimes I combine both. When painting a wall mural, I use house paint and/or acrylics.
  • How long does it take to complete a portrait?
Depending on the subject, background, and size, it typically will take eight hours to 25 hours over three to four weeks. I do not work straight through. I like to have time in between several interpretative painting sessions to approach the painting fresh.
  • How long does it take to finish a wall mural?
It depends on the size of the wall, details of the subject, materials used, and physical access to mural site.
  • Do you work from photo references or life?
I can draw and paint from life, but for logistics and subject matter purposes, I paint from photo references. FYI - dogs don’t sit well for a long time!
  • Can I send photo references electronically or do you need print references?
I use both emailed photo jpegs and hand-delivered or mailed paper prints.
  • Can you add two subjects to a painting, each from a separate photograph?"
Yes. If, for example, you want a painting of two children, but you only have separate photos of each, it is best to supply photos of them in similar lighting. If one child’s photo was taken inside with a flash and the other child’s outside without a flash, it is more difficult to adjust lighting. I welcome multiple photos of the same subject as they serve as great references.
  • Does it cost more to have additional subjects in a painting?
Yes. There is an additional cost for each subject added.
  • How do I order a painting or a mural, and what will it cost?"
Call me at (858) 663-2374 or email me at roseanngaglio@gmail.com to discuss what you would like, and I can explain what would be involved and the cost. Portraits start at $350 for a standard frame of 14" x 11". As the subjects are added and the size goes up, so do the prices. Wall murals can vary, from a simple design to a massive wall. Please call for pricing.
  • How do you process my payment?
I request a 50% deposit with final payment including shipping and taxes due prior to shipping. If local pickup is preferred, there is no charge for shipping. I accept all major credit cards.
  • How will I receive my painting?
If you are local, you can come to the studio, or we can arrange to meet. If you need it shipped, I will need your address before beginning the painting, and I will use USPS or UPS delivery services.
  • Do you offer framing?
No. If the painting needs to be shipped, it is more cost effective to send the painting alone, as my works of art need glass with the frame.
  • Anything else?
If you have any additional questions, please call me at (858) 663-2374 or email me at roseanngaglio@gmail.com
